Jim and I created the original full body, life-size Wild Bill Hickok
just to "make something," with the city of Deadwood in mind. Jim picked Wild Bill.
So as not to be influenced, I did not look at any photographs or the granite bust of
Wild Bill that Dad created in 1952 for the city of Deadwood.
The clothing is true to what Wild Bill wore. The hair is based on my nephew Jason, who was
wearing his hair exactly like Bill's at the time. My daughter, Heidi, used to change Bill's bow
tie quite often while he was still in clay.
It's an honor for me to have a statue in the same town as my father's.
