Taku Wakan (tah-KOO wah-KAHN) is all that is mysterious. According to Lakota beliefs,
to invoke
Taku Wakan
is to invoke all the spirits. The sculpture
Taku Wakan represents all that is mysterious
in the sacred dimensions of Native American life. It further demonstrates the
interconnectedness of all things in the universe, both animate and inanimate -- a dominant theme
in Native American life. Some of the symbols in the sculpture relate closely to a specific
people or their culture and others are universal, but all blend together to reflect the harmony
and unity central to the Native American way of life.
James and I will present to Crazy Horse Memorial a one and one-half life-size bronze
of Taku Wakan when the 99th limited edition bronze is sold. The sculpture will
help welcome visitors to Crazy Horse at the entrance to the Orientation Center. Taku Wakan
will be on the left side of the entrance. A bronze of Korczak (Dad)
and Chief Henry Standing Bear (also larger than life) will be on the right.
Taku Wakan will be a gift out of respect, thanks and love for my mother.
